Art was born Arthur Fennell on January 10, 1961, in Bennettsville, South Carolina, United States. He was raised with his twelve siblings.
He completed his primary schooling at a local school and attended South Carolina State University to complete his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Communication and Media Studies.
Career
After completing his graduation, Arthur began his journalism career as a radio broadcaster in South Carolina.
He held on-air positions with the South Carolina Educational Television Network. From 1990 to 2000, he was an anchor and news reporter at WCAU NBC-10 in Pennsylvania.
He later joined Comcast/NBC Universal in 2001, where he served as Principal News Anchor, Host, Managing Editor, and Executive Producer until 2014.
At Comcast, he hosted late-night newscasts, and also delivered coverage for TV-One, including Michael Jackson’s memorial.
He covered significant events such as the 2008 Election Night and President Barack Obama’s inauguration, and taught communication at Delaware State University.
Since 2007, he has worked as a self-employed TV journalist and Multi-Media Executive, producing broadcast content, freelance travel writing, documentary films, and photography.
Other Works & Awards
In 2001, Art founded the Art Fennell Foundation, which operated until 2008, supporting underserved communities in health and education.
He served as National President of the Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) from 1995 to 1997, and also as president of the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists.
